Description

In this multi-day residency, students will consider books as an art form, not just as a vehicle for content. Using felting techniques and stitching, students will create a book cover from sheep wool and then write and illustrate the pages. Information about different fibers and the plants and animals they came from are woven into the content of the Handmade Artist Book residency as well.

Sample Common Core connection: 
RI.4.7: Interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs, diagrams, time lines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears.

Pricing

Typically, residencies range from $2,000 to $3,000, but we can use your available budget and ‘work backwards’ to create a cost-effective residency for your school. We may be able to assist you in securing grant and funding opportunities.

Residencies are tailored to your needs but usually include:

  • A kick-off assembly
  • A required orientation meeting and planning session
  • A set of workshops for classes of up to 25 students each
  • A student culminating or sharing event
  • An evaluation meeting
