About this Artist
Currently residing in Stevensville, Maryland, Candace Brush has been creating art since 2005 and obtained a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland, College Park in 2015. As a visual artist, her most favorite medium lays within painting; printmaking weighs in at a very close second. She is also well versed in drawings using graphite, charcoal, and pastels. Since originating from paintings on canvas, Candace has added a larger scale style of painting murals. Since 2016 she has had wonderful opportunities to paint murals and the great honor of working with Maryland’s First Lady, Mrs. Yumi Hogan on several occasions. Candace’s passion lies in creating inspirational spaces, using bright colors and illustrative imagery to visually uplift the community. Since Candace has begun painting murals she has had the great privilege of teaching students the ins and outs of the process, from sketching ideas and designs to the last brush stroke. The best part about teaching students to paint murals is the ownership they acquire over the piece and the space it inhabits—the proud moment of knowing their talents are recognized and will be recognized by anyone that gazes on the piece for years to come.
Uplifting others and creating visual art have always been a large part of who I am. As such, I have found creating community murals keep these two attributes hand in hand. From designing to painting, the community is able to take ownership and have pride in the accomplishment. Not to mention they are a great way to bring everyone together, leaving behind a piece of art that showcases the wonderful qualities of the community for years to come. My murals also have many bright colors because I appreciate the way they catch the eye—the positive energy they bring to a space. Couple that with encouraging imagery and the final result is nothing short of illustrative and cheerful.
