We’re seeking artists working in all art forms, including visual arts, spoken word and storytelling, music and music production, dance, theater, film and video, and design. Artists whose work represents specific cultural experiences are encouraged to apply.

A limited number of positions are available so applicants are encouraged to apply early. Applications are considered as they are received.

Applicant Criteria and Process

Applicants for Teaching Artist and Teaching Artist Apprentice must:

  • Embrace the Summer Arts & Learning Academy values:
    • Believe unwaveringly that all students can achieve high standards in and through the arts;
    • Provide opportunities for students to develop powerfully articulate voices through art forms and honor their creative processes along the way;
    • Collaborate and reflect by learning from and with each other at every step of the process cultivating positive relationships among all ages; and
    • Encourage the development of critical thinking, problem solving, inquiry, imagination and creativity.
  • Be excited about working with Baltimore City elementary school students
  • Be available for ALL of the training (if needed), professional development, and Academy dates. (see full schedule)

 

Teaching Artist applicants must:

  • Be a working, practicing artist.
  • Have experience working with children in a formal or informal settings. This may include in a school, community center, religious settings, camp, or childcare center.
  • Be eager to closely collaborate with a Baltimore City Public Schools academic teacher to plan, teach and reflect.
  • Be available on all dates for group interview sessions, observation, training (if needed), professional development, and the 5-week Academy. (see full schedule)

Teaching Artist Apprentice applicants must:

  • Be available on all dates for group interview sessions, professional development, and the 5-week Academy. (see full schedule)

 

Step 1: Complete an application using Submittable by November 27, 2017. Applications will be considered as they are received.

Step 2: Applicants who are invited to continue the application process will participate in a two-hour group interview.

Step 3: Teaching Artist applicants invited to continue in this process will be observed working with students in a setting of the applicant’s choice: either leading a student experience at a school or community setting or facilitating a workshop with Young Audiences staff at the Young Audiences office.

Young Audiences will contact references and conduct background checks for finalists in December.
