YA partners with the Harford County Public Schools Title I Office to provide year-long training in arts integration for teachers. The results of an evaluation of the 2011 Innovative Teaching Institute, which hosted more than 70 Harford County Title I elementary school teachers, are undeniable.
Many Young Audiences professional development programs are designed to support educators in understanding the Common Core College and Career-Ready Standards across curricular subjects. Young Audiences also offers Connecting to the CORE!, which is designed to help educators unpack the Common Core Standards through the arts while creating new lesson plans and units. Learn more about our Connecting to the CORE! program here.
We offer professional development workshops for MSDE or BCPSS AU credit.
Pat Cruz, Young Audiences Education Director
Amanda Kodeck, The Walter’s Art Museum Head of School and Docent Programs
Use the Walters Art Museum’s collection, work with teaching artists, and create arts-integrated lessons in this course co-led by the Walters Art Museum and Young Audiences. You will spend time in the Walters’ galleries, experience an arts-integrated lesson by a Young Audiences teaching artist, and brainstorm with other educators about arts integration. We encourage you to apply with another teacher of a different discipline (arts with non-arts teacher). Upon completion, you will receive 1 MSDE Reading and Math credit or 1 BCPSS AU credit (pending continued approval). This program is available annually in June, or upon request from school districts and other groups.
