Anna Menendez is a Flamenco dancer and choreographer who studied extensively in Spain. She was the recipient of the Artists’ Fellowship award from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities for excellence in Flamenco dance in 2003. She has performed in many operas and with the “La Truco Flamenco” dance company in Spain, appeared in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and performances with Carmela Greco.
Teachers and students will learn the elements of Flamenco Dance and how they can use them to interpret the mood/tone expressed in a piece of text or image(s). Teachers and students will match the mood/tone of Flamenco Dance to a text of similar mood/tone. Teachers and students will create their own Flamenco dance using the elements to interpret a text based on its mood/tone.
The purpose of this workshop is to make teachers feel comfortable and confident enough with the basic elements of Flamenco dance that they are able to incorporate them into their curriculum in an effort to support and enrich the students learning experience.
