Singing is a whole-brain activity. Songwriting strategies for creating and producing melody and rhythm address music standards. Language Arts standards, such as identification of a main idea, exploration, organization, and restatement using imagination and poetic language skills, are enhanced and taught at the same time. In this music residency, each teacher selects a song topic for the class from current curriculum. In addition to learning about songwriting tools and structure, students manipulate the content using higher level thinking as they apply their knowledge, experience, and perspective to the task. An excellent curriculum assessment tool, the potential uses for songwriting as an integrated classroom application are endless.
Typically, residencies range from $2,000 to $3,000, but we can use your available budget and ‘work backwards’ to create a cost-effective residency for your school. We may be able to assist you in securing grant and funding opportunities.

The students enjoyed your lessons immensely and did not want you to leave. They spontaneously break into "The Two Greedy Bears", "Little Red", and especially their favorite, "The Trouble Song" at random times during the day. The fact that I'm teaching Math or Reading doesn't deter them in the least! Obviously, you made a lasting impression on these children. As much as all the children love music, I'm sure they never thought it possible that they could actually write a song and perform it in front of their peers after only a few lessons.
