I never thought the arts were "me." I think it’s very healthy when you integrate the arts in different subjects because you look at things from different perspectives. It’s what children need and it’s what I wish I had.
Maria Barbosa’s work explores issues of communication, misunderstandings, and the ways language can liberate or confine us. Maria’s installations and artist’s books are exhibited internationally, and she participates in artist-in-education programs locally through the Teaching Artist Institute (TAI) and nationally through the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Maria received a B.S. from the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, a M.S. from the Escola Paulista de Medicina, and a Ph.D. from the University of California Riverside.
